The Way to Pay

All You Need to Know About CATA

Tips for New Riders

Just follow these steps, and your CATA trip will be easy:

Wait for the bus at any bus stop along your route. Make sure you are on the side of the street with traffic going in the direction you want to travel. Some bus stops are served by more than one route. As the bus approaches, check the route number located in the area above the windshield. If it’s yours, indicate to the driver that you want to board.

To pay your fare, place your U.S. coins or bill in the farebox when you board or use your CATA pass. If you pay more than your fare, the farebox can issue a CATACash Card for use on future CATA trips.

If you use more than one bus to reach your destination, ask the driver for a free transfer when you board your first bus and pay your fare. Insert your transfer ticket in the farebox slot of your next bus when boarding.

About a block from your destination, push the plastic strip beside the window (on some buses you pull a cord). This will signal the driver to stop at the next bus stop.

Please exit at the rear door. For your safety, wait until the bus passes before crossing the street. If your bike is on the bike rack, please tell the driver you will be taking it off just before you exit the bus.
