Where can I buy a pass?

Passes are available for sale on CATA’s website, the CATA Transportation Center (CTC) at 420 S. Grand Ave., Lansing, MI 48933 and at CATA’s administrative office in south Lansing, at 4615 Tranter Street, Lansing, MI 48910. Passes are also available on MSU’s campus at the Union and most residence halls. Passes are also available from vendors all over the Lansing and East Lansing area and a list of the vendors is available in the fares section of our website.

Does CATA operate on the major holidays?

No. CATA services do not operate on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

What do I do if I left something on the bus?

You should call CATA’s lost and found at 394-1000 and speak to a Customer Service Representative.

Where can I get a CATA system map?

In addition to the Website system map, print versions are available at Customer Service.

Where are CATA’s administrative offices located?

CATA’s administrative offices are located in south Lansing off of Pennsylvania Avenue, at 4615 Tranter Street, Lansing, MI 48910.

What is CATA Rural Service Advance Reservation and who can ride it?

CATA Rural Service Advance Reservation is an advanced-appointment, curb-to-curb service for all residence of rural Ingham County and for any trip purpose.

How can I contact CATA Rural Service?

CATA Rural Service (CRS) can be reached at (517) 394-4178 or (800) 322-1390.

When can I schedule a reservation for CRS?

Representatives are available to take CRS reservations Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

If I ride CATA Rural Service can I transfer to a fixed route? How much will it cost?

CATA Rural Service customers can transfer from Rural Service to a Fixed route. Transferring to an equal or lower-fare service is free, but when transferring to a higher-fare service the difference in fare must be paid when you present your transfer slip.

What is CATA’s Spec-Tran service and who is eligible to ride?

Spec-Tran is CATA's advanced reservation transit service for persons with disabilities who cannot use fixed route service. You must be certified in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to use Spec-Tran service. Spec-Tran uses small buses with wheelchair lifts, station wagons and vans.

What is the cost of Spec-Tran?

The current fare is $2.50 for each one-way ride. Fares are reviewed annually and are subject to increases. Please pay the exact fare upon boarding the vehicle. You may use cash, Spec-Tran punch cards or blue Spec-Tran tokens. You may not use regular CATA tokens, write a check, pay later or pre-pay for additional rides. Punch cards and tokens are available for purchase at CATA's office and at various locations throughout the community.

How and when can I get a ride on Spec-Tran?

You may call (517) 394-6230 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. seven days a week to schedule a ride for the next day or later, up to 14 days before your ride is needed. Spec-Tran service is not available on a same-day basis. Let us know if you need a round trip ride. Please be on time for all rides. Your ride could arrive between five minutes before the scheduled time and up to ten minutes after the scheduled time. For example, if you have a 10:00 ride time, the Spec-Tran vehicle could arrive between 9:55 and 10:10. If the vehicle arrives at 9:55, it will wait 5 minutes until it departs. Please be on time to avoid a no-show. Spec-Tran hours of service are:
Monday through Friday 5:40 a.m. to 11:05 p.m.
Saturday 8:15 a.m. to 10:50 p.m.
Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 7:10 p.m.

How do I learn about employment opportunities?

Available positions can be found on the CATA employment listing page, the Lansing MESC office, and in the Lansing State Journal Sunday classifieds. If you are applying for a maintenance or driver position a copy of your State of Michigan driving record is required.
